reason #654 why i am not a typical librarian

I refuse to wear practical shoes. I work in a profession full of practical-shoe-wearing individuals. If it is rubber-soled & flat, you will find it on the feet of my colleagues. If it is a little slippery on the bottom and has a 2-3 inch heel, you will find it on my feet.

Lou, our government documents librarian, gets a kick out of my impractical shoes. Now Lou is older than my parents & has been in the profession for years. She has practical shoes galore, but she's got a lot of spunk in her & can still appreciate the novelty of a fun, sassy pair of shoes. All the same, she occasionally gives me a bad time about them.

Several weeks ago, I was asking her if she thought I should take my nose ring out for an in-person interview. Her response: "No, I don't think you would need to take it out, but I'll tell you what you should do. [pause] You should wear practical shoes." I took her advice on the first count, but definitely not on the second.

I don't wear practical shoes either -- in fact today AA asked why I was so dressed up, and I said I wasn't, I was wearing flat shoes :)

I also got a bad time a VPL about non-practical shoes from Missy.
