a Christmas miracle

Once upon a time in a library in Virginia, there was a librarian who had a horrible, unergonomic desk. She bumped her knees on the bottom of the drawer every time she crossed her legs, and the top of the desk was so high that the blood would all drain out of her hand when she used her computer mouse. The desk was not inherently a bad desk, but it was certainly not designed for short people or for use with a computer.

After many months of struggling with the desk, the librarian received some joyous news: the library would be purchasing her a new desk. One that was bigger and designed for computer use and ergonomic to boot. She couldn't have been more thrilled.

So she waited and waited in anticipation of the new desk. Finally, after 3 months of waiting, the desk arrived. The workmen came with the desk and assembled it as the librarian waited. When they had finished, she poked her head into her office to see the glorious new desk, but much to her horror they had brought the wrong desk. The shape and style were right, but half of the desktop was a hideous light wood-grained colored desk instead of the gray blue that had been ordered.

"I'll keep this for now," the librarian declared, "but you must return with the right desktop."

So the workmen left. Three months later they returned. The librarian was hopeful that now her desk would be right. That hope was quickly dashed when she saw the results. The desktop was the right color but completely the wrong size.

"Take it back," she cried. "I'll stick with the wood-toned top until you can bring the right size and the right color."

Months passed. The librarian had almost given up hope until one day she received an e-mail from the building supervisor saying that the right desk should be delivered that week. Despite the ray of hope, the librarian was skeptical but thought that there might be some truth in the saying that the third time's a charm.

The day of delivery arrived and the librarian anxiously waited to see what the workmen would bring. Finally, the workmen arrived and assembled the desk. When they'd finished, she peaked her head in the office and much to her great delight, there sat her desk. Each piece was the right color. Each piece was the right size. She was overcome with joy.

And they all declared it a Christmas miracle!

The End.

So how many months in all?
I guess good things do come to those who wait. :)

Wow, nice to here that University maintenance in Virginia is as efficient as it is in South Dakota.

Were you working with a Federal Government contracting agency? Seems like it would have to be if it was that messed up. But...all is well that ends well...

No, a state gov't contracting agency... Evidently they're just as bad.
