thoughts from home

In the week or so that I've been home in SD on vacation, I've been sick more days than not. First it was a fever, then sinus problems, then a fever again. Sigh. I guess I'm not totally surprised. Ever since Thanksgiving, I've felt like my body was fighting something off. It's really par for the course: when I was in school, I always got sick during break because I'd been pushing myself so hard and finally had a chance to just stop and rest. Hopefully I kick whatever this is soon.

One of the few days I was feeling well, mom and I tore apart half the house, threw things away, identified things to donate to the Salvation Army, and rearranged the furniture. It definitely needed to be done, and sometimes those projects are just too big to tackle on your own.

I've thought this in the past few months, but coming home, I realize more and more that I'm definitely more moderate than conservative. I think that when I'm in Virginia, I feel more conservative because I work with so many liberals. However, surrounded by so many conservatives here, I see that I'm definitely more moderate.

ooh, ooh - the curious, inquiring minds want to know: moderate about what, exactly? i think a lot of us try to fit categories because that's what we humans do - categorize so we can understand things in terms of similar/dissimilar. although i've been old enough to vote for (ahem) a long time now (we're old! when did that happen?) this is the first presidential election where i feel my choices are being made from a well-considered, harmonized group of beliefs and priorities. so if you're feeling up to typing more on this topic, i'd love to hear (well, read) it. :)

If you're a moderate then I'm not sure we can be friends....

I kind of feel the same way, only the opposite. People here are soooo "conservative" (I hate these labels, but that's a whole other rant) that I feel completely out of place here (and in S.D.). But I can't say I relate entirely with people we consider "liberals" either.
