resolution update 1

First, thanks to everyone for their helpful and encouraging comments. I think that healthier living is something we all want on different levels. While I stated my resolution in terms of pounds lost, the heart of it is to live a healthier lifestyle. It's not that my current weight or eating habits are so terribly out of whack, but I know that I could make healthier choices. Health is more than the number on the scale.

So how did the the past week go?

I still haven't moved on the exercise front. There's something about the 2 feet of snow on the ground that sap my motivation. I know that's a lame excuse, but I'm just being honest here.

I tried using Spark People to track calories online, and I feel like it's more cumbersome than writing things down by hand. I think that part of the problem is that many of the things I ate weren't in there, so I had to input them manually. I do like how it gives a very visual representation of daily intake. I think I need to go back to the pencil and paper method. Bizarrely enough that seems very simple whereas the online equivalent seemed like more of a chore.

Next week: aiming for action on the exercise front.

You've inspired me Melissa. It's been really hard to get motivated after having Chloe...but I know that if I dont' get into a regular routine before going back to work it will be so much harder to find the time. So now I'm inspired...we'll see what happens.

Keep it up! For exercise, what helped me was taking classes - the instructor and other people in the class were really motivating and they will post on my facebook if I skip! I take spinning, kickboxing, toning, circuit and water intensity...a lot of gyms have no initiation/free month deals now that the "resolution rush" has died down...Water classes are really fun, easy on the joints, and you have to put on your swimsuit regularly so it serves as a reminder for me.

Last week I rediscovered how much work it is to tromp through 2 feet of snow. You can get a real workout, if you don't mind falling down a few times! And it's more interesting than a treadmill.

Hey, have you thought of a personal trainer? I once hired a girl who was not certified but had plenty of experience (she was a student). I saved money and got GREAT workouts, she got some cash, everyone was happy in the end. PTs really help you get going on this exercise front!!!!
