Why not?
1. I have a really low forehead.
2. Bangs seem like too much maintenance (I prefer no- to low-maintenance when it comes to my hair).
3. The giganta-bangs of the 80s scarred me for life (OK - maybe that's not true, but they were hideous, and I never had them. Thanks, Mom, for not letting me go down that road!)
So why now?
1. My sister got bangs, and they are super cute!
2. I keep seeing haircuts I like with bangs.
3. It was time for a change.
Today I got my hair cut, and I told the stylist I wanted bangs. I showed her a picture (it was a super-cute haircut by the way), and she was entirely skeptical. Having none of it, really. So she talked me into doing longer, side-sweeping bangs instead, but as my sister says, "those are not bangs :) those are long layers." And she's right. They're not really bangs, but they're also not really long layers. They're bang-esque. But they would have been even longer if I'd let her have her way.
I have never met a hair stylist who was so unenthusiastic about helping a client change her hairstyle. Ridiculous. I'm thinking of switching stylists. She does a decent job, but she never does exactly what I want her to do. Plus, she's always a bit snarky and not very friendly. AND ... yes, there's an "and" ... to top it off she wears way too much black eyeliner.
Anyway, here's the haircut. I do like it although it's not quite what I was hoping for.

I like it. But I do have the itch to carefully push your hair out from in front of your eye......
It's a mother thing. :)
V. cute! I approve. And I know my approval was what you were going for! :) In all seriousness, life is too short to let someone else try to change your mind about things like hairdos - new stylist, stat!
I really like it...but i'm not a bang person either. The last time I had "real" bangs was when I was a sophomore in high school.
I'm not sure I agree that you should find a new stylist. I think it's good to have one that's honest with you--as long as she had good reasons for not giving you bangs (face shape, low forehead, etc). But that's just my opinion. :)
I like the haircut. and if it's not what you wanted, you can go shorter next time around. i have to admit i'm not a bang person, either, just because for me they are super high maintenance - i'd have to straighten them every day. i always see cute haircuts for people with nice straight hair. so jealous!
as for the stylist, i agree it's good to have one who tells you when things are a bad idea, but you have to trust her judgement. it's taken me ... umm ... 27 years to find one i really like and who does what i expect from her.
To Melissa's Mom: that is SO what MY mom would say!!
To Melissa: I totally LOVE it! Guess who else got bangs! Only I'm kind of annoyed with them at the moment. When your used to tucking them behind your ear... it takes a little getting used to when they now hang in front of your eye! :)
So for what it's worth... I hate my bangs!! I totally forgot that I was living in the midwest again. They won't stay where I want them to... they hang in my eyes...
Yours are the perfect length Melissa... don't go any shorter... don't do it... I mean it.
Meghan, I think that trips to Maza are in order when we're back in Reno in October :)
Yeah no kidding. Along with margaritas, Tahoe, the Chocolate Bar, and cruising around listening to Todd Agnew singing "Grace Like Rain"!
Ahhh... the good old days! :)
I'm in! That all sounds absolutely perfect :)
